Design The Conversation launches on International Women’s Day and runs till April 30th.
Atlanta, GA (March 8, 2017) – Ninja Girl Handbags has partnered with Georgia nonprofit, Raksha, Inc. to bring its mission of women’s safety to the United States. The handbag line was founded by Junior Gupta, who was inspired to make a difference after the infamous 2012 Delhi Gang Rape case.
The two organizations have come together to launch the Design The Conversation contest on International Women’s Day to have a community-designed handbag, whose proceeds will benefit Raksha and SHE (Seeking Her Empowerment). The two nonprofits that support women’s safety and justice causes in Georgia and India, respectively.
Designs for the contest will be accepted until April 30, 2017, and will then be open for voting by the public. The winning design will revealed and available for purchase in Fall 2017.
“Through this contest, we hope to engage the community in the bigger conversation about women’s safety and justice issues,” said Gupta. “Women’s safety is not just a woman’s issue – it’s a men’s issue. It’s a community issue and we all have to participate in the dialogue to make our neighborhoods, cities and countries safe for all who live there.”
The handbag line supports SHE, a nonprofit that supports legal services; legislative advocacy; and awareness for women’s issues in India. Raksha, Inc serves South Asian women who are victims of sexual assault or domestic violence with access to healing empowerment, and justice in Georgia. (Raksha’s mission is to promote a stronger and healthier South Asian community through confidential support services, education, and advocacy.
“Our mission to empower men, women and children in Georgia is inspired by community advocates like Junior and Ninja Girl Handbags,” said Aparna Bhattacharyya, executive director of Raksha, Inc. “We are excited to partner with such a dynamic company that is seeking to make a difference for women in our local communities.” Raksha, in many South Asian languages, means “protection.”
